The Sounds of Glory began as a gospel quartet in the fall of 1981. Randy Green called Lanier Stevens and said "Brother Stevens, let's get together and sing ... and do you know of anyone who can sing first tenor." To which Lanier replied, "My cousin, Tex Stevens, is one of the best tenors I know." That phone call began a gospel singing group which has touched the lives of thousands of people. The original group was made up of Randy Green, lead singer; Tex Stevens, first tenor; Lanier Stevens, baritone; and C. D. Davis, bass.
After several months, Tex's schedule became so hectic that he resigned from the group. Wyane Atkinson took his place and sang with the group for over a year. When Wyane moved away from Madisonville, Charles Davis began singing first tenor with the group and continues in that position until this day. In 1987, Randy moved to California and Dale Underwood became the lead singer and has been ever since. In 1996, C. D. Davis began having some serious health problems and decided to leave the group. For the many friends of C. D., his health is improved and he now serves the Frazier Street Church in Conroe as it's Small Groups Minister. Upon C. D.'s retirement, Lanier moved to the bass part and Lanier's son, Dan Stevens, and Charles' son, Brad Davis, both very talented young singers, joined the group.
In the fall of 2004 another change
in the group took place. Rodney Britt, who became a household
name as the bass singer for Acappella 20 years ago, joined The Sounds of Glory and has added a new dimension to the "Sounds".
On the latest album
recorded by the group, "This Little Light", the current members of The Sounds of Glory
are:
Dale
Underwood - Lead,
Charles Davis - First Tenor,
Dan Stevens - Second Tenor and Lead,
Lanier Stevens - Baritone, and
Rodney Britt - Bass.

Dale
Underwood, Lead
Singer... Dale, a native of Victoria, Texas, is the son of Gary
and Marilyn Underwood. His wife is Karlene (Stone) Underwood and
they have two children, Kaylynn and Kyle. Kyle, 11 years old, is
the young voice you hear singing "This Little Light of
Mine" on our new album. Dale is presently one of the
principals in the Normangee ISD and is also the Associate
Minister and Music Minister for the North Madison Church of
Christ in Madisonville, Texas. A gifted composer, Dale writes
much of the new music sung by the group. His tremendous ability
to vocally improvise provides the personality of the The Sounds of
Glory.

Charles
Davis, First Tenor... Charles, a native of Bishop, Texas,
is the son of J. W. and Liz Davis. His wife, is Marilyn (Pope)
Davis and they have two children, Christi and Brad. He is also
the proud grandfather of 2 little granddaughters, Emma and Elyssa

composer
and arranger is felt in everything we do, both new and old".

Charles and Marilyn Davis, has been involved with The Sounds of
Glory almost all his life. Earlier this year, Brad completed 6 years of
service in the United States Navy. He is now residing in
Pasadena. Brad is able to sing any part he's
called on to sing with the group because of his excellent range.
.

Dan
Stevens,
Second Tenor and Lead... Dan, the middle son of Lanier and Betty
Stevens, is a native of Madisonville, Texas. His wife is Kelli
(Craig) Stevens and they now have three children, Mackenzie,
Jackson, and little Jenna. They currently call Sachse, Texas
home, where Dan serves as the Associate Minister and Worship
Leader for the Richardson East Church of Christ. While Dan is
still recording with the group, his concert appearances are
limited because of his responsibilities at home. His Dad is
trying to fill his shoes when Dan is unable to be with us in
concert.
Rodney Britt, Bass....Rodney's email address is thebass1@hotmail.com, which is an understatement! His tremendous range plus power and resonance when he sings in his lower register make Rod one of the best bass singers around. Some have even called him the "J.D. Sumner" of his generation. Raised in Nashville, TN and having sung with groups like "The Disciples, "Acappella", "Providence", plus studio work with a number of different groups and individuals has given him the experience and foundation to be a real asset to The Sounds of Glory. Rodney and his wife, Paula, currently make their home in Bethany, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City. He serves as one of the ministers of the Northwest Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. He has two sons, Josh and Logan and a little daughter, Hailey.
Lanier Stevens, Baritone... Lanier, youngest son of M.
Roy and Hallie Stevens, was born in Beasley, Texas. He and his
wife Betty Jo (Farris) Stevens, have lived in the Madisonville,
Texas area since 1966 which is where Betty grew up. They have
four children, Karen (Stevens) Altom, Ben Stevens, Dan Stevens,
and Jon Stevens. They have also ten grandchildren, Abby and
Marshall Altom, and Summer, Sawyer, Sydney, Mackenzie , Jackson,
Jenna, Hallie and Sam Stevens. Lanier retired after 30 years as a
rural mail carrier but over those years he has also preached for
the Midway Church of Christ and the North Madison Church of
Christ in Madisonville, where he currently serves as the pulpit
minister. He and Dale, working together at the North Madison
Church, have had the opportunity to collaborate on many of the
songs sung by the group.
